One suggestion:
I had to do the whole thing twice because there is one point unclear:
You write "go to windows and make the card bootable with cardtricks".
I did this, but this is not enough.
You also have to install CHDK with cardtricks to make it work!

For me it don't works...
Partitions on my 16 GB SD card lookes like this:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 11 11248 5 Extended
/dev/sdc2 12 15744 16110592 b W95 FAT32
/dev/sdc3 1 11 11248 6 FAT16

But what is the reason ot the extended partition. On which partition I should copy chdk files (sdc1 or sdc3)?
Could you post here how your partitions look like after these operations?
